I’ve talked about some of these separately but here’s one condensed illustrated post for some of my favorite ways real animals differ from their common animated/fictionalized versions. Cartoon versions aren’t necessarily “bad,” but it’s cool when you finally see one do the research, too.

This is play behavior! This bird knows that the object it has is not food- it also knows that it will not bounce on the grass very well, so it brings the ball to the sidewalk to play. My peafowl (especially the girls!) will do the same bouncy, wings-open, spinny-flippy run around when they get excited and try to instigate play with each other!
